PDX Saints Love is seeking a dependable, hard-working, and community-minded Meals Program Assistant to support our growing meals program serving neighbors experiencing homelessness and food insecurity.

This position works closely with the Director of Meals in preparing, packaging, and distributing meals that are served throughout our community. The ideal candidate enjoys working in a fast-paced kitchen environment, values teamwork, and can also work independently when needed.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in food service, community care, workforce development, or culinary arts. Training and mentorship under a professional chef are provided, with opportunities for growth within the organization.

• Assist with meal preparation and food production
• Portion and package meals for community distribution
• Support kitchen organization and inventory management
• Wash dishes, sanitize surfaces, and maintain kitchen cleanliness
• Assist with receiving and storing food donations and deliveries
• Follow food safety and sanitation standards
• Support meal service and distribution events as needed
• Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community members
• Complete opening and closing kitchen tasks
• Perform light cooking and food preparation under the guidance of the Director of Meals
• Work independently on assigned kitchen projects and tasks when the Director is off-site

• Reliable attendance and punctuality
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Comfortable working in a mission-driven environment serving vulnerable populations
• Food service, kitchen, catering, restaurant, or meal preparation experience preferred but not required
• Food Handler's Card (or ability to obtain upon hire)
